US Open betting tips and predictions for women’s outright: Can Coco Gauff conquer New York again?

The final Grand Slam of the year gets under way on Sunday with the women’s US Open looking wide open despite Aryna Sabalenka bidding for a third successive title.

The world No. 1 remains the player to beat in New York, but recent results have been below her usual standards, while Elena Rybakina is threatening to take top spot in the rankings.

Coco Gauff arrives fresh from winning Cincinnati and has the chance to repeat her 2023 US Open triumph, while Rybakina and the in-form Marta Kostyuk offer plenty of appeal at bigger prices.

US Open Tennis Tips

  • Coco Gauff to win @ 5/1
  • Elena Rybakina to Win & E/W (1/2 2 Places) @ 14/1
  • Marta Kostyuk to Win & E/W @ 20/1

Gauff is peaking at the right time

Coco Gauff returns to New York with momentum behind her after winning the Cincinnati Open and there are obvious similarities with her breakthrough US Open triumph three years ago.

The American also lifted the Cincinnati title in 2023 before going on to win her first Grand Slam in front of an ecstatic home crowd at Flushing Meadows.

Her serve has been an issue at times in recent seasons, but it has looked far more reliable during the North American hard-court swing, while her forehand has also become a much less obvious weakness.

The rest of her game remains as formidable as ever, with Gauff possessing exceptional court coverage, a world-class backhand and the ability to turn defence into attack.

She also looks well positioned in the draw and would not be due to meet two-time defending champion Sabalenka until the final.

At 5/1, the 2023 champion is a strong punt in the outright market and looks capable of taking advantage if Sabalenka’s recent struggles continue in the second week.

Rybakina can overcome New York record

Rybakina’s price reflects concerns over her fitness and poor US Open record, but there is no doubt about her ability when she is fully fit.

The Australian Open champion has been one of the best hard-court players in the world this season and has already shown she has the game to beat the very best.

Her huge serve is arguably the most potent weapon in the women’s game and, allied to her clean ball-striking and power from the baseline, makes her extremely difficult to stop when she finds her rhythm.

The obvious concern is the injury which forced her to retire during her Cincinnati quarter-final, while she has never progressed beyond the fourth round at Flushing Meadows.

Still, the Kazakh has plenty of motivation as she chases the world No. 1 ranking and the longer price allows for the fitness doubts surrounding her.

At 14/1, Rybakina looks worth backing in the each-way market.

Kostyuk getting closer to big win

Marta Kostyuk is the biggest-priced selection of the three, but the Ukrainian has put together an incredibly consistent season and looks ready to make a serious breakthrough.

The 24-year-old has won 27 of her last 31 matches, with the remarkable nature of that run becoming even clearer when you look at the players who have beaten her.

Her only losses during that stretch have come against the eventual champions of the French Open, Wimbledon, Toronto and Cincinnati.

That consistency has taken her to the latter stages of the biggest tournaments and she has also collected eight victories over top-10 opponents this season.

Recent hard-court results have not been quite as eye-catching as her form on clay and grass, but she reached the Brisbane final earlier this year after beating Jessica Pegula, Mirra Andreeva and Amanda Anisimova.

Kostyuk has been knocking on the door for a major breakthrough and at 20/1 she looks a tempting each-way proposition in a women’s draw packed with talented players but short on certainty.
