Chargers undrafted rookie sends loud and clear preseason message ahead of 53-man roster cuts

The Los Angeles Chargers played in their final preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, and they may have left with more questions than answers. With every team having to cut their roster to 53 by Sunday, the Chargers had a few players who stood out against the Rams and are fighting for a spot. One of those players was undrafted rookie Greg Desrosiers Jr., who finished with nine carries, 118 yards and a touchdown.

He ran with a purpose all night, and he showed the Chargers that they’d have to make a tough decision. After the game, he echoed the same thing.

“At the end of the day, they’re going to have a big decision to make and my job was to make it hard for them,” Desrosiers said via ESPN’s Kris Rhim.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Desrosiers found his way on the roster, especially with a recent injury to Keaton Mitchell. It’s being described as an undisclosed injury, and offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel said he had a mild setback. It’s uncertain if Mitchell will be out for Week 1, but if that’s the case, the Chargers know they have some reliable options to help Omarion Hampton in the backfield.

The starters stepped on the field for some time in the preseason finale, and they showed some good things that will have fans excited. Justin Herbert found Quentin Johnston for a 65-yard touchdown in the second quarter, and it looks like the Chargers will continue to have explosive plays in their offense under McDaniel.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Chargers perform when the season starts, when they face off against the Arizona Cardinals.
