United’s 2-0 loss to a Hull side widely tipped to struggle at the foot of the table has increased the pressure on Michael Carrick’s team ahead of their first home fixture.

With both of their opening games coming against newly promoted opposition, the schedule had initially appeared favourable for the Red Devils.
