One NBA insider believes that Golden State Warriors All-Star Stephen Curry’s injury concerns played a significant role in LeBron James’ free-agent decision this summer. Curry and the Warriors’ recruiting pitch for LeBron went south ahead of James announcing his two-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Curry, who suffered from a runner’s knee injury, played in only 43 games before the Warriors missed the playoffs, which ultimately led to James taking his talents elsewhere, according to ESPN’s Marcus Thompson.

“As worried as he is — he seems worried about it,” Thompson said. “I think that’s one of the reasons Bron didn’t come here. He’s like ‘How many games am I going to have to play for ya’ll?’ What happens if I need two weeks off? Ain’t no room for that.”

NBA analysts believe the Warriors remain commited to re-building around All-Star Stephen Curry, which could lead to a potential trade involving Jimmy Butler III or Kristaps Porzinigs, according to ESPN’s Ben Golliver.

“The angst level is rising among Bay Area fans after the Warriors made no major additions via trade or free agency after just their second losing season in the past 14 years,” Golliver said. “Now that Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James have headed elsewhere, what’s the plan to give Stephen Curry, who will turn 39 in March, another shot at the playoffs?
