Cape Verde scores 1st-ever World Cup goal on insane free kick
After Cape Verde shocked the world with the 0-0 tie against Spain in their first game in Group H, they kept the impressive run going at the start against Uruguay on Sunday evening in Miami, Florida. With the World Cup in full swing, the African country is looking to make its mark on the tournament.
While Uruguay would score two unanswered goals after the fact, one can’t take away Cape Verde’s first-ever FIFA World Cup goal, which happened in the 21st minute on a direct free kick from Kevin Pina.

As soon as the ball went through the net, the cheers for Cape Verde were rocking Hard Rock Stadium, though the events afterward were more bleak. Mentioned before, Uruguay would come roaring back with two goals to end the first half, first by Maxi Araújo in the 44th minute, then by Agustín Cano in extra time leading into the break.
Cape Verde is looking to have a strong second half to at least tie or maybe come back and win against Uruguay in Miami, as if they lost, their chances in Group H fall off. Whatever happens, Cape Verde will take on Saudi Arabia for their third game in Group H, which is set to take place on Friday night.
At any rate, there is no denying that whatever events happen, this has been a monumental year for Cape Verde, making their first World Cup appearance, tying Spain in the first game, and getting the first goal in the second contest.
