Liverpool have returned from their pre-season tour of the United States, but their friendly action continues at Anfield.

New Reds boss Andoni Iraola will be in the home dugout at the stadium for the first time, as his side welcome Monaco.

Fans could also see new signing Victor Munoz in action for the first time, too.

The manager told fans the no.23 cut short his holiday to link up with his new teammates early having been given an extended break after winning the World Cup with Spain.

“You need time to adapt when you are moving to a new club and a new country so for me it was a case of the earlier I could get started, the better,” he told the club’s official website.

Asked if he will play against Monaco, he added: “Well, I think I’m ready. Obviously if the coach says so after training and asks me to feature in the starting XI, I’ll be there. I’m keen and I can’t wait to get started. [Against] Monaco, why not?”

So far this summer, Iraola’s side have won two and lost one of their outings, being beaten 4-2 by Leeds last time out.

That disappointing result followed a 1-0 win over Wrexham and a 4-2 victory against Sunderland in the States.

As for Monaco, they’ve won just one of their three friendlies so far, beating French lower-league side Saint Priest 5-2.

After that win, they lost to Sporting Lisbon and then were held to a 2-2 draw against Belgian outfit Cercle Brugge.

This pre-season friendly will take place on Sunday, August 9.

Kick-off at Anfield is scheduled for 2:30pm.

Liverpool vs Monaco: Team news

Florian Wirtz, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexander Isak all made their first appearance of pre-season against Leeds.

They are sure to get some further minutes in this clash, while Jeremie Frimpong has raised some fitness concerns.

Frimpong asked to be substituted last time out, but Iraola said post-match that he had not picked up an injury.

As for Monaco, former Arsenal striker Mika Biereth is set to feature, along with ex-West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer.

Manchester City loanee Mathys Detourbet will play too.

Liverpool vs Monaco: Special tribute

Liverpool have announced that a series of tributes will take place at Anfield in the coming weeks for legend Kevin Keegan.

Keegan, who scored 100 goals in 323 appearances for the Reds, sadly passed away in July.

A statement from the club reads: “Supporters attending the Monaco game will also see special tributes displayed on Anfield’s LED screens, with a period of applause observed before kick-off and players wearing black armbands.

“This will be the club’s first home fixture since Keegan’s passing and will provide an opportunity for fans to remember one of LFC’s greatest players.

“LFC are also in direct contact with Newcastle United ahead of the Premier League opener at St. James’ Park regarding special tributes to Keegan, who represented both clubs so successfully and managed the Magpies.

“In addition, a further tribute will be held ahead of the Reds’ first Premier League home game of the season on Saturday, August 29 against Nottingham Forest.

“This will provide another opportunity for supporters to pay their respects with a special fan mosaic and a period of applause observed before kick-off, with players also wearing black armbands.”
