Canadiens’ Lane Hutson sets new franchise record in Game 3 vs. Hurricanes
The Montreal Canadiens fell to the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals. It was an overtime loss in which the Canadiens did not have a shot on goal.
The game went to overtime because of a Lane Huston goal in the second period that tied the game at two goals apiece. That goal was his third goal of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and second on the power play. The goal also set a franchise record, according to ESPN Insights.
Huston became the first defenseman in Canadiens history with 10 power play points in a single postseason. The blueliner has scored two goals with eight helpers on the man advantage so far in the postseason. Overall, he is second on the team in points this year. He has found the back of the net three times while adding 12 helpers.
His 15 points are now tied for fifth all-time for most points by a defenseman in a single postseason in Canadiens history. Huston is tied with Larry Robinson from 1979 with 15 points. His 15th point also broke a tie for sixth with P.K. Subban from 2014 and Eric Desjardins from 1993. Hutson is still six points behind Larry Robinson, who amassed 21 points in the playoffs in 1978.
Huston is going to have at least two more games to expand on his franchise record. The Hurricanes have a 2-1 series lead over the Canadiens. Huston and the Habs will return to the ice on Wednesday night for Game 4 in Montreal. Game 5 will then be on Friday night back in Carolina.
