Broncos’ Riley Moss not at practice with injury, but Sean Payton isn’t worried

The Denver Broncos took a loss to the Green Bay Packers in their second preseason game on Friday night. Sean Payton was not happy with the Broncos’ performance in the preseason affair.

In the game, cornerback Riley Moss suffered a rib injury, but coach Payton is not concerned, per Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette.

“Broncos coach Sean Payton said Riley Moss injury is nothing serious and they are being smart by him not practicing,” Tomasson posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Moss was a third-round pick of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Broncos after playing his college football at Iowa. He played in 14 games in his rookie season, coming away with six tackles. Moss broke out in 2024, making 14 starts and coming away with 86 tackles, eight pass breakups and an interception. He would improve in 2025, starting all 17 games for the Broncos. He came away with 80 tackles, 19 pass breakups, and an interception.

Moss was on the sideline during the practice, along with Drew Sanders, Alex Forsyth, and Caleb Lohner. RJ Harvey was also on the side for the first part of practice. Meanwhile, Frank Crum was absent from practice after an injury he suffered in the preseason game.

While Moss missing any time would be a major issue, the team still has 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Pat Surtain II in the secondary. The Broncos also recently added Taylor Rapp to the elite defense.

The Broncos have high expectations in 2026. They made it to the AFC Championship in 2025 and hope to take the next step this year. They open their season on September 14 on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.
