Raiders cut former Commanders, Texans WR before final preseason game

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak picked up his first win as an NFL head coach last weekend with a 22-20 win over the Houston Texans on the road. As the Raiders’ final roster begins to take shape, Kubiak and GM John Spytek elected to make a notable cut early. According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter via X, formerly Twitter, veteran receiver Noah Brown was released.

“Raiders released veteran WR Noah Brown,” reported Schefter Monday afternoon.

Brown, a 2017 seventh-round pick, was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys and spent the first five seasons of his career there. Then, a one-season stint with the Houston Texans led to two more with the Washington Commanders. His first year with Washington coincided with the Commanders’ surprising run to the 2024 NFC Championship Game, where they fell to their division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. However, Brown hit the market after an injury-filled 2025 campaign in which the ex-Ohio State standout played in four games.

Signed just eight days ago, it was thought that Brown would add a veteran presence to a wide receiver room that could use some of it. The Raiders signed former Minnesota Vikings wideout Jalen Nailor in free agency, while recent draft picks Jack Bech and Tre Turner look to make a bigger mark under Kubiak. Dont’e Thornton Jr. and Malik Benson are a couple of other young receivers who could use more reps, especially alongside top pick Fernando Mendoza. Will Spytek and Kubiak elect to bring in another veteran receiver to replace Brown? Or run with their young targets and hope for the best?
