Can Giants upset expectations this year? Here’s what Mike Tirico said

The New York Giants are just days away from kicking off their 2026 NFL season on Sunday evening against the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants are hoping for a strong start to the season under new head coach John Harbaugh, who joined the team after being let go by the Baltimore Ravens this offseason.

On the call for Sunday’s game for NBC will be Mike Tirico, who recently spoke on his outlook for the Giants in 2026 during an appearance on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show.

“I’m excited about the New York Giants.. John Harbaugh runs a professional operation and this is going to be what Giants fans have been looking for,” said Tirico, per Pat McAfee on X, formerly Twitter.

Indeed, Harbaugh has been known for his no-nonsense attitude to coaching dating back to his Ravens days, where Baltimore was consistently among the top teams in the AFC throughout his tenure, winning a Super Bowl in 2012-13.

Now, Harbaugh joins a Giants team that is fully entrenched in a rebuild, hoping that Jaxson Dart proves worthy of being the team’s franchise quarterback moving forward in his first full year as a starter this season. The Giants do have plenty of young talent on the roster, including Dart, alongside wide receiver Malik Nabers and running back Cam Skattebo, among others.

If the Giants can show some signs of growth this year, it’s not off the table that they could become a free agent hotspot next offseason thanks to their market as well as the respect that Harbaugh clearly still has around the league.

In any case, the Giants and Cowboys are set to kick things off on Sunday evening at 8:20 pm ET from the Meadowlands.
