Robert Saleh drops extremely bold Jets prediction

The New York Jets are currently gearing up for the first game of their 2026 season on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans on the road. The game will pit the Jets against their former head coach, Robert Saleh, who now holds the same position for the Titans.

Recently, Saleh had some high praise for his former team ahead of the matchup.

“Geno (Smith) can still sling it. When he has time, he can throw the ball, and he’s got weapons to throw to. He can run a very high-functioning offense. I fully expect them to be a really, really good offense as this year progresses. I would not be surprised if this unit finishes in the top half of the league. It’s pretty talented,” he said, per Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team on X, formerly Twitter.

Saleh seems to hold a lot more optimism in the Jets’ offense than New York fans do, as the team is widely expected to be among the worst teams in the NFL this year. Of course, it’s not unusual for opposing coaches to speak overly highly of their opponents leading up to matchups as a bit of reverse psychology, but there could be some of Saleh’s take that is genuine.

Saleh’s tenure with the Jets didn’t go well, hampered by a torn Achilles for quarterback Aaron Rodgers and general regression up and down the roster, which many feel he was scapegoated for.

He quickly got back into the coaching mix with a strong performance as the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator last year, and is now hoping to lead the Titans back into relevance in the NFL landscape.

Kickoff between the Jets and Titans is set for Sunday at 1:00 pm ET.
