Klint Kubiak gets 100% real on his first game as Raiders’ head coach

The Las Vegas Raiders are just days away from kicking off their 2026 NFL season. The game vs the Miami Dolphins will mark the first for Klint Kubiak as an NFL head coach after the Raiders hired him this offseason following his run as the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator.

Now, Kubiak has gotten 100 percent real on his state of mind ahead of his head coaching debut.

“It’s our first game as a staff, our first game as a team. That’s what I’m most excited about,” he said, per Levi Edwards of the Raiders on X, formerly Twitter.

Kubiak recently made the decision to start veteran Kirk Cousins at quarterback ahead of rookie number one overall draft pick and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza. The move will give the Raiders some stability at the position as they open up their schedule, and also allow Mendoza to learn the ropes from a veteran who has been around the league for well over a decade.

Still, many fans are hoping that Kubiak ultimately puts Mendoza into the mix at some point this season, as opposed to having him spend his entire rookie campaign watching from the sidelines.

Kubiak drew immense praise for the inventive offensive schemes he drew up for the Seahawks, culminating in them winning the Super Bowl in blowout fashion last year, with quarterback Sam Darnold establishing a great synergy with Kubiak in the process.

In any case, the Raiders are set to kick off their season on Sunday against the Dolphins at home. Kickoff for that contest is slated for 4:25 pm ET from Las Vegas.
