Caleb Williams hype train has new riders – NFL agents think he’ll ‘define decade’
This season is destined to be a season like no other for Caleb Williams. But the future seems even brighter for the third-year QB for the Chicago Bears.
In fact, some NFL experts aggressively anticipate Williams as a generationally defining QB, according to Ben Standig of Last Man Standing on Substack.
The experts put together a poll asking, “Which quarterback will define the next decade of the NFL?” Among Williams, Patrick Mahomes, Fernando Mendoza, and the 2024 class, Williams obtained the most votes at 5.5.
Other names included were Joe Burrow, Drake Maye, Lamar Jackson, Dante Moore, and Jayden Daniels.
“My mind goes straight to performance and Drake Maye,” an anonymous agent said. “But his personality is low-key. Caleb is right there with talent and personality-wise — he’s a different dude. Fascinated to see where his career goes. [Bears HC] Ben Johnson is the perfect, somewhat unconventional coach for him, and they might turn Chicago into an annual contender.”
Last year, Williams finished with 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns. The Bears won the NFC North and made it to the Divisional Round.
This year, the Bears are expected to go far in the playoffs, and Williams is expected to win the MVP. Not only that, but Ben Johnson could win Coach of the Year.
Once Williams arrived in Chicago after winning the Heisman Trophy at USC, he was saturated with hype. Now, three years in and still young, he has a chance to take his career in a completely different direction.
The Bears kick things off on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers at 12:00 pm CST/1:00 pm EST.
