Is Astros’ Carlos Correa returning from injury soon?

The Houston Astros have had an up-and-down season, but that hasn’t stopped them from staying in first place in the AL West. Granted, the Texas Rangers are right behind them, but if they can finish the season strong, they shouldn’t have much to worry about. They also could be getting a key player back from injury, as Carlos Correa has been sidelined since May.

Correa had to have surgery on his left ankle, and he’s been working to get back on the field. The latest update surrounding his status is good news for the Astros, and there might be a chance he returns in the coming weeks.

“Hit on the field on Sept. 8 at the team’s Spring Training facility in West Palm Beach, Fla. He has yet to run the bases, but he has done sprints in the outfield,” MLB.com wrote.

At the time of the surgery, there were thoughts that he would miss the remainder of the season, but he’s making good progress.

It still feels like Correa has a long way to go before he can play, but hopefully, he can make it back in time for the playoffs or in the middle of a series. The plan has always been for Correa to come back in September, and it looks like he’s making perfect timing.

Before he was sidelined, Correa was hitting .279 with a .369 on-base percentage and .418 slugging percentage in 32 games. There’s no doubt that he’s important to the Astros’ success, and getting a lift from him late in the season could be just what they need.

It’ll be interesting to see what the next steps for Correa will be as he continues to recover.
