Bulls rumors: Josh Giddey should be on notice for possible trade after Bryson Graham hire

Josh Giddey might be at a crossroads this offseason following the Chicago Bulls’ hiring of Bryson Graham.

Giddey completed the fifth season of his NBA career, his second with the Bulls. He enjoyed career highs as a scorer and playmaker, being a key component in the team’s offense.

However, Chicago might be going for a different direction after hiring Graham to become their next executive vice president of basketball operations. This means that Graham will be a firm role in the next decisions regarding the roster, especially for signings, trades and draft-day selections.

NBA insider Brett Siegel took part on a May 7 episode of the Clutch Scoops show with Tomer Azarly. They discussed multiple topics as one featured the Bulls, with Siegel explaining why Chicago might move Giddey after hiring Graham.

“Graham laid out in his press conference that he wants guys that are hard-nosed, can play on both ends of the court, athletic length. Those are the type of players that they’re going to be targeting moving forward. And quite honestly, when you look at this roster right now, there’s not many of those guys outside of Noah Essengue and Matas Buzelis. So it draws major questions about where Josh Giddey fits in with the future of this organization,” Siegel said at the 41:10 mark.

“Will they look to trade him this offseason? And I think that the Bulls, just from this press conference alone, you mentioned it with Michael Reinsdorf apologizing to fans, I think that was very productive, and it puts them in the conversation to move in the right direction. We’ll see what happens with the NBA Draft, though.”

Josh Giddey and the Bulls haven’t been back to the playoffs since 2022, making the play-in tournament from 2023 to 2025. However, the lack of significant success paved the way for a firm rebuild of the franchise.

Giddey enjoyed his time throughout the season, averaging 17 points, 9.1 assists and 8.3 rebounds per game in 54 appearances. Chicago finished with a 31-51 record, taking the 12th spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
