MLB analyst shuts down Shohei Ohtani, Pete Crow-Armstrong MVP debate

The MVP race between Shohei Ohtani and Pete Crow-Armstrong is heating. It couldn’t have come a better time in August with the postseason approaching. It’s certainly crunch time for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who despite a six-game losing streak, are favorites to win a third straight World Series. Meanwhile, the Cubs are vying for at least a Wild Card slot after an up and down season.

But aside from that, whoever will win the NL MVP will likely take precedent. It’s already a hotly contested debate among MLB analysts. On Thursday, after the Cubs defeated the Dodgers 7-6, MLB Network analysts Harold Reynolds and Chris Young duked it out over who should win the MVP.

It was Reynolds who secured the KO by asking:

“What is [PCA’s] ERA?”

Although Ohtani is battling a knee injury and was taken out of the rotation, his pitching prowess is a bonus. He’s made 14 apperances on the mound with a 8-2 record, 1.79 ERA, and 94 strikeouts.

Over the last 57 games, Ohtani has been killing it at the plate. He is batting .349 with 20 home runs, 45 RBIs, 47 runs scored, and an OPS of 1.184. On the flip side, Crow-Armstrong batted .224 with 6 home runs, 24 RBIs, 31 runs scored, and an OPS of .676 in his first 58 games.

The battle for MVP was front and center on Thursday. Both Ohtani and Crow-Armstrong hit leadoff homers. Ohtani went 3-for-5 with 2 two home runs and 3 RBIs. Crow-Armstrong went 3-for-5 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIS.

If all goes well for Ohtani, he would win his fourth consecutive NL MVP.
