Mystics’ winning streak hits mark not seen since 2019

The Washington Mystics notched their fifth consecutive win after upsetting the Dallas Wings for the second straight game, 96-92, at CareFirst Arena on Thursday.

The Mystics improved to 17-12, while the Wings fell to 19-12. Washington beat Dallas, 81-75, on Friday at the same venue.

In their rematch, the Mystics had to rally from a 20-point deficit to complete the come-from-behind victory. Cotie McMahon stepped up in crunch time, scoring 10 of her season-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to energize Washington.

Shakira Austin led the way with game-highs of 27 points and 13 rebounds. She shot 9-of-15 from the field and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe.

According to the WNBA, Washington had not been on a five-game winning streak since 2o19.

The Mystics went on to win the championship that season, with Elena Delle Donne being named the MVP. They were coached by Mike Thibault.

Washington used a balanced attack against Dallas, with Georgia Amoore tallying 12 points on four three-pointers and five assists, Sonia Citron adding 12 points, three assists, and two steals, and Kiki Iriafen collecting 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists.

The Mystics went on a 12-0 run in the fourth quarter to tie the count, 86-86, with 3:38 remaining. From there, they never let go of the momentum, with McMahon and Citron hitting timely buckets.

Washington, which shot 50% from the field, pummeled Dallas in the interior, finishing with a 12-point advantage in points in the paint, 48-36.

Jessica Sheppard carried the Wings with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists.

The Mystics will aim for their sixth straight win on Friday when they host the Atlanta Dream.
