Bucks GM Jon Horst breaks silence on Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, extension decision

The Milwaukee Bucks have once again found themselves as the center of attention this season, and it revolves around Giannis Antetokounmpo and his future with the team. Both sides seem to be on different pages, especially with the recent investigation about whether Antetokounmpo is healthy enough to play.

With both sides saying different things, many think this is the final straw and could be the end of Antetokounmpo’s run in Milwaukee. As for general manager Jon Horst, he still thinks there are a few scenarios that can happen when it comes to the Bucks’ star, whether it’s extending or trading him.

“It’s not actually the only two doors, right? There’s door No. 3 that actually exists, but that’s just a level-set, non-emotional reality of where it’s at on Oct. 1,” Horst said via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “And I’m not saying that you do something beforehand. I’m just saying you do have to understand where you want to go, but we don’t have to know that today.

“Yeah, we have three tradable firsts, right? We have tradable contracts. We have one of the best players in the world — the best player in the world, in my opinion — under contract. We have a high draft pick this year that hopefully it’s a great opportunity to have a great pick in a great draft…”

Nehm then asked Horst if he needed reassurance that Antetokounmpo would sign an extension before he tries to build the roster into a contender.

“I trust and believe what Giannis has said and has been written: ‘I want to win, and if I can win in Milwaukee that’s where I want to be.’ You know? Everything else is conversation, alignment, discussion … and that’s for him and that’s for us. But 100 percent believe that Giannis Antetokounmpo cares about winning and would love to win in Milwaukee. I believe that,” Horst said.
