Bryson Graham’s statement confirms why he stole Tiago Splitter away from Blazers

The Chicago Bulls announced on Monday that they hired Tiago Splitter as the new head coach. In essence, stealing him from the Portland Trail Blazers.

On Tuesday, the Bulls made it official in a statement, per Elias Schuster of Sports Illustrated.

“We are excited to welcome Tiago to the Chicago Bulls,” said Chicago Bulls Executive Vice President – Basketball Operations Bryson Graham. “Throughout our process, Tiago stood apart for his basketball intellect, his ability to connect with and develop players, and the way his teams compete every single night.”

In the statement, Splitter thanked the Bulls’ leadership and expressed excitement about the new job.

“I want to thank Jerry, Michael, Bryson, and the entire Chicago Bulls organization for the opportunity to lead this historic franchise,” said Splitter. The Bulls represent everything I love about this game, carrying a proud tradition, a passionate city, and a young, hungry group of players ready to grow.”

Splitter is coming off a season in which he took over as head coach of the Trail Blazers. This follows the firing of Chauncey Billups after being indicted during the FBI gambling investigation. Ultimately, Splitter led the Blazers to the postseason with a 42-40 record and is a candidate for Coach of the Year.

Splitter played seven seasons in the NBA from 2010 to 2017. In 2014, he won an NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs. He played overseas in the EuroLeague from 2000 to 2010.

Splitter had coaching stints with the Brooklyn Nets, Houston Rockets, and Paris Basketball. He won the LNB Elite and French Cup in 2025.
