Blake Griffin had perfect reaction to Coby White game-tying 3 in Hornets-Heat clash

The Charlotte Hornets competed in their most important game in over a decade on Tuesday night, and despite a couple of lapses, they rewarded fans for their long wait and put on a captivating performance in a do-or-die NBA Play-in Tournament showdown with the Miami Heat. LaMelo Ball, who is drawing serious criticism for ostensibly tripping Bam Adebayo in the first half, lifted his team to a 127-126 overtime victory after making a layup with less than five seconds remaining. But one cannot forget about the clutch play that made that game-winner possible.

Blake Griffin and Udonis Haslem surely won’t. Hornets midseason acquisition Coby White tied the score in the final 11 seconds of regulation after nailing an off-balance 3-pointer, rescuing Charlotte from elimination and giving fans renewed hope heading into OT. The heart-stopping bucket produced plenty of strong reactions around the globe, including in the NBA on Prime Video studio.

Griffin, a five-time All-NBA selection and former Los Angeles Clippers star, watched with his mouth agape following White’s stunning trey. Beside the retired forward sat Miami Heat fan favorite and three-time NBA champion Udonis Haslem, who shook his head in utter disgust. Emotion fuels sports, and the Hornets and Heat certainly evoked a variety of feelings during and after this wild Play-In matchup.

Coby White did much more than deliver one epic moment. The 26-year-old guard scored 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting and drained five 3-pointers in 26 minutes off the bench. He also recorded five rebounds, three assists and two steals, rewarding the front office for the investment it made on Feb. 4.

The Hornets will have trouble sleeping after this dramatic battle inside the Spectrum Center, but they have to quickly regain their equilibrium and begin preparation for Friday’s NBA Play-In Tournament game against either the Orlando Magic or Philadelphia 76ers. Blake Griffin and Udonis Haslem will need to regroup as well, for a hectic postseason awaits.
