Ben Stiller drops honest truth on attending Met Gala over Knicks’ Game 1 vs 76ers
Famed comedian, actor, and well-known New York Knicks fan Ben Stiller was on the receiving end of criticism after attending the Met Gala instead of Game 1 against the Philadelphia 76ers. On Thursday, Stiller shared his side of the story, revealing he would have rather attended the playoff game than go to the Met Gala.
During a guest appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” the 60-year-old Meet the Parents star admitted he wanted to go to the Knicks’ playoff matchup against the 76ers, but didn’t want to back out on an invite to the Met Gala he received three months ago. He explained how he still repped the Knicks at the event and watched Game 1 on his phone.
“As a fan, I wanted to be at that Knicks game more than anything,” said Stiller… “I was invited to the Met Gala three months ago, and I didn’t wanna cancel on our friend… We wore our Knicks colors, and I was watching on my phone.”

Ben Stiller also opened up about how it felt going to the Met Gala, thinking Timothee Chalamet, who is also a huge Knicks fan, would be at the event too. Ultimately, Chalemet did not go to the Met Gala and chose the Game 1 matchup vs. the 76ers as the more important event to attend.
“That was the thing,” said Stiller. “The fact that [Chalamet] decided to not go – By the way, I don’t get invited to the Met Gala. Timothee gets invited to the Met Gala every year… I’m not that guy. So, the irony was… I hope Timothee also goes to the Met Gala, and of course, he wasn’t.”

At the very least, Ben Stiller made up for missing out on the 137-98 Game 1 Knicks win by attending the 108-102 Game 2 victory for New York. He very well could be in attendance for Game 3, which takes place in Philly on Friday at 7 p.m. EST.
