Bayern Munich consider move for 87-cap England international to join Harry Kane

John Stones is being lined up for a reunion with Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich, reports claim.

The 31-year-old will depart Manchester City at the end of the season when his contract comes to an end.

Stones has enjoyed ten trophy-laden years at the Etihad Stadium since joining from Everton in a deal rising to £50million in 2016.

The 87-cap England international has scooped 17 major honours in the last decade – the latest being in the form of the FA Cup following the recent 1-0 win over Chelsea.

But he was an unused substitute, with the centre-back reduced to a bit-part role under Pep Guardiola this term.

He has been limited to just eight Premier League outings – starting on four occasions – with Abdukodir Khusanov, Marc Guehi and Ruben Dias preferred instead.

Set in Stone

talkSPORT reported in April how Everton were eyeing up a move to bring Stones back to Merseyside.

Now, according to the Daily Mail, Bayern have joined the race to snap him up on a free transfer.

Stones spent three seasons as Kompany‘s teammate at City between 2016-2019.

And a move to Bavaria would also see Stones link up with Three Lions teammate Harry Kane.

Kane has spearheaded the German giants to back-to-back Bundesliga titles having made the move from Tottenham in 2023.

He could add another major trophy to his name when Bayern face Stuttgart in Saturday’s DFB-Pokal final.

Stones isn’t the only English player that Bayern are targeting this summer.

talkSPORT understands that Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon has agreed personal terms over a move to the Allianz Arena.

However, there remains a significant gulf in valuation between the two clubs after talks began in early May.

The Magpies value Gordon at £75m following a season in which he has chipped in with 17 goals and five assists in all competitions.

Bayern have targeted high-profile Premier League-proven players in recent years.

Sadio Mane was prised away from Liverpool in 2022, with Kane and Eric Dier brought to the club in the 2023/24 campaign.

In 2024, Bayern then raided Crystal Palace to sign Michael Olise, while also bringing in Joao Palhinha from Fulham.

And last summer was no different, as they once again turned to Liverpool, this time for Luis Diaz.

Chelsea were also the subject of Bayern’s attention, as Nicolas Jackson joined on a season-long loan.
