Baker Mayfield reconciles with family after $12 million dispute

Not long after fellow NFL player Aaron Rodgers reconciled with his family, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield followed suit following a $12 million dispute.

During an interview with the Tampa Bay Times (via the New York Post), Mayfield revealed that he has reconnected with his family over the “past few months.” He appears glad that it has happened, as this allows his parents to spend time with their grandchildren.

“In the past few months, I’ve been reconnected with my family,” Mayfield revealed. “It’s been good. Also, for them to have two grandbabies, it’s tough.”

He appears to have moved on from whatever dispute happened. Mayfield and his wife, Emily, took their daughter, Kova, to meet her grandparents on her first birthday. According to the quarterback, “you [could] tell if just melted them.”

According to the New York Post, the family had a falling out over whether or not $12.2 million had been misappropriated by an investment firm called Camwood Capital Management Group that his father, James, founded. His brother, Matt, is also a managing director.

The firm in question includes family members from 2018-21, and in 2023, Mayfield and his wife filed a court petition to investigate how the firm (and its subsidiaries) used those funds.

In the court filing, it was alleged that over $12 million was transferred from the Petitioners’ personal accounts to “various entities and investments.”

Per Mayfield, the petition had been a “long time coming.” In 2024, he sued Camwood and its subsidiaries. According to the lawsuit, both sides allegedly reached a confidential agreement earlier in the year for $11.7 million plus interest. However, the deal had not been fulfilled. The settlement allegedly included a refinancing of a loan. This would’ve helped Mayfield receive the money. It also would have given access to the company’s financial records.

In March 2025, the case was voluntarily dismissed. Now, over a year later, he has reconnected with his family before his ninth year in the NFL begins.
