Commanders pour cold water on Rachaad White injury conspiracy as mystery absence explained
Rachaad White has been mysteriously absent from Washington Commanders practice in recent days.
The 27-year-old running back has been dealing with an undisclosed injury, which a handful of eagle-eyed fans were quick to speculate was sustained in rather bizarre way.

White, alongside a number of his Commanders teammates, appeared in an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video on August 17.
The viral social media challenge sees participants dump a bucket of freezing water over their heads, in a bid to raise awareness for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
Washington stars accepted the challenge in honor of former NFL star Chris Johnson, who recently announced he was diagnosed with the disease in 2025.
Commanders star caught up in bizarre injury conspiracy
White has not practised since the ice bucket challenge, leading to some speculation that he was injured taking part.
He appeared to slip as he jumped up and attempted to run from the water.
NFL expert Warren Sharp took to X on Wednesday to share the bizarre suggestion with his 425,000 followers.
“Rachaad White was fine prior to this ice bucket challenge on 8/17,” he wrote, re-posting the video.
“He’s mysteriously missed the last two days of practice since the Commanders posted this video (8/18, 8/19). Did he injure himself right here?”
The conspiracy didn’t take long to spread on social media.
“It’s so dumb they did this on concrete when there is grass right there… also I don’t get why he’s wearing SLIDES in this environment, when those are EASILY slippery on any surface,” one fan wrote.

“He literally twisted his ankle and lost one of his slides,” another said.
“Looks like a simple ankle sprain,” a third speculated.
“Cursed season for the Commanders and it’s still August,” a fourth said.
Rachaad White injury conspiracy shut down as real cause revealed
Sharp’s conspiracy was widely shared, and picked up more than 1.7 million views in 12 hours.
But it was soon shut down by NFL insider Mike Garafolo, who later revealed the real reason White has been sidelined.
“Regarding Commanders RB Rachaad White’s absence the last few days, he tweaked his hamstring in the joint practice with the Dolphins,” Garafolo shared.

“Worked out prior to Friday’s game. Not considered serious or long-term for White, who’s excelled in (offensive coordinator) David Blough’s offense in OTAs and camp.”
The Commanders’ official line, it seems, has poured cold water on any conspiracy talk around White.
Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic added that the running back will likely miss the next preseason game against the Detroit Lions on Saturday.
“Sorry to debunk the ice bucket conspiracy theory, but Commanders RB Rachaad White suffered a hamstring injury during the team’s joint practice with the Dolphins, per source,” Jhabvala posted.

“He was held out this week and likely misses the Lions game, but it’s not considered a long-term issue.”
Rachaad White tipped for big season with Washington
White, who joins the Commanders having played four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has been listed as a name to watch in 2026 — especially when it comes to fantasy football.
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report believes he is the top RB sleeper candidate heading into his fifth year.
“White is one of the better pass-catching backs in fantasy, having topped 200 receptions over his first four NFL seasons,” Buckley wrote.
“In Washington, he might be even more active. He has a familiarity with quarterback Jayden Daniels (they played together at Arizona State) and limited competition from starter Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who had nine receptions in 17 games as a rookie.”
Indeed, 2026 looks set to be an exciting season for White and the Commanders. He’ll be back on the practice field soon, once he’s recovered from a hamstring tweak.
