Celtics’ Luka Garza sounds off on Joe Mazzulla’s boxing sessions with Jayson Tatum

The Boston Celtics are in good hands as long as head coach Joe Mazzulla is calling the shots for the team. Mazzulla is not just a masterful tactician and a diligent student of the game, he also embraces the leadership aspect of his coaching job. In fact, on Wednesday, Mazzulla paid a visit to Indianola, Iowa to make an appearance in Luka Garza’s offseason camp for youngsters.

This speaks volumes to Mazzulla’s care level for his players that he would travel far and wide to show up for them. The Celtics head coach has fostered an environment in which his players are ready to go to war for him, and Garza is certainly one of those who will leave everything on the line for his team.

Garza, in fact, wants to join Mazzulla in some boxing sessions after a clip of the Celtics head coach undergoing some boxing training with Jayson Tatum went viral.

“I would definitely join in on some boxing. When it gets to jiu-jitsu and all that, coach Joe, he’s got that too. That’s fun and challenging. It’s cool to see him do it and how he commits himself to working hard. We can see that as guys on his team. He’s one of those coaches that you want to run through a brick wall for him,” Garza said, via Trey Redfield of Iowa 5 News.

It has to be motivating for players to see their head coach also work on himself physically, and that has to be driving them to be even better and be even more meticulous in their preparations for the upcoming season.

The Celtics lost Jaylen Brown earlier this offseason in a trade, so Boston has their work cut out for them in filling that void. But they seem to be prepared, mentally and physically, for the challenges that lie ahead if this is any indication.
