Cubs’ Dansby Swanson gets crucial update amid injury recovery
The Chicago Cubs lost shortstop Dansby Swanson to injury recently. The veteran shortstop has missed time due to an oblique injury. It’s a crucial loss for a Chicago team fighting for an NL Central division title.
The loss of Swanson did not hamper them in their most recent series. Chicago was able to take two of three from their crosstown rival, the Chicago White Sox. The Cubs would certainly still like to have the veteran in the lineup, though. On Wednesday, they released an update on Swanson’s status.
“Will remain in Chicago for rehab during Cubs’ upcoming road trip, per manager Craig Counsell. MRI on Aug. 17 showed an oblique strain and Swanson is expected to miss at least four weeks,” the update read, via MLB.com. A four-week timeline would give him a chance to return before the end of the regular season.
Swanson is in the midst of his fourth season with Chicago. He has slashed .216/.300/.404 with a .704 OPS through 119 games this year. He has swatted 18 home runs, drove in 66 runs, struck out 106 times, and walked on 46 occasions.
As previously mentioned, the Cubs are fighting for an NL Central division title. Chicago sits 4.5 games back of the division-leading Milwaukee Brewers at this time. They own the top Wild Card spot in the National League, six games above the San Diego Padres, who own the final spot.
Swanson has delivered for the Cubs throughout his tenure on the North Side of Chicago. Hopefully, the veteran shortstop can make his way back to the diamond before the regular season ends with a clean bill of health.
