Athletics place outfielder on injured list before Mariners game

The Athletics are set to play the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday. Before the game, the team announced that outfielder Denzel Clarke has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a mid foot bone bruise in his right foot. Outfielder Colby Thomas was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move.

The Athletics have out-performed expectations to begin the new campaign. At 13-11, the A’s currently lead the American League West division. The Athletics have dealt with some injury concerns though, and now Clarke is headed to the IL.

Clarke, 25, made his MLB debut in 2025. Between the 2025 and 2026 seasons, Clarke has appeared in a total of 69 games. He is hitting .214/.262/.323 during that span. So far in 2026, the Athletics outfielder is slashing .170/.228/.189 in 22 games played.

Despite his struggles at the plate, Denzel Clarke will be missed while on the injured list. The team will continue to monitor and provide updates on his injury status as they are made available.

The A’s are currently playing the Mariners in a three-game series in Seattle. Entering the season. Seattle was the favorite in the AL West. Yet, the Mariners are just 10-15 and in fourth place in the division at the moment. Additionally, the Athletics currently lead the three-game series 2-0 heading into Wednesday’s contest.

Earning a sweep would feel like a statement even though it still is early in the 2026 season. Nevertheless, it has been a big series for the A’s.

The Athletics and Mariners game on Wednesday afternoon is scheduled 4:10 PM EST in Seattle.
