Keyshawn Johnson is out on ‘dry lemon’ Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers
The Pittsburgh Steelers may look a little different this season, but they’ll still have some of the same guys from last season to rely on. Aaron Rodgers happens to be one of those players, even though he plans to retire at the end of this season. Everyone knows what Rodgers has been able to do in his career, but there are some who believe his glory days are over.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz asked Keyshawn Johnson about his thoughts on Rodgers and the Steelers, and it’s safe to say his out on them.
“Aaron Rodgers is a thousand years old,” Johnson said. “You can only get so much juice out of a dry lemon, and Aaron Rodgers is a dry limit at this stage of his career. If Mike Tyson got in a heavyweight ring right now, I’d bet on that Mike Tyson, too, because I’m still in love with the Mike Tyson in the ’80s. That’s the way you are with Aaron Rodgers.
“On the field, he’s not Aaron Rodgers, a four-time MVP. He’s just not. Father Time catches up to you, and that’s okay. He can still play football, but he’s not at the level what we remember in Green Bay, so we can’t force it to be what it’s not.”
Rodgers showed last season that he doesn’t have the same juice he’s had over his career, but the Steelers haven’t been able to find a better option than him at quarterback. Add to that the fact that Mike McCarthy is now the head coach, and there’s no way he was going to let Rodgers leave so soon.
The Steelers have put the right players around Rodgers, and the only thing he’ll have to do is make sure he gets them the ball in order for the team to be successful.
