Athletics No. 5 prospect Henry Bolte getting called up to MLB
The Athletics have several guys who are doing good things, including Nick Kurtz. Also, Brent Rooker reached a milestone. However, there’s another thing to be excited about as the Athletics called up No. 5 prospect Henry Bolte to the MLB club, according to a post on X by MLB Pipeline.
“One of the hottest hitters in baseball, @Athletics No. 5 prospect Henry Bolte, is being called up for his MLB debut, per @JonathanMayo. Bolte had hits in 12 straight plate appearances last week and had 9 XBH over a 2-game stretch: https://atmlb.com/4u8cqI2”
That’s some serious minor-league damage.
Will Henry Bolte shock MLB pitching in the same manner?
The 22-year-old Bolte is 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds. He was selected by the Athletics in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft. He fits the typical Athletics player mold, according to MLB.com.
“Bolte is a tooled-up athlete who boasts an exciting combination of power, speed, and defense,” MLB wrote. “He took a step back in the power department last season, though some of that zapped strength may have been caused by a nagging wrist injury that he took care of this offseason with surgery. The swing-and-miss remains an issue. But the A’s continue to work with him to address it and are encouraged by his progress.
“Bolte’s elite speed translates both on the basepaths and in the outfield, where he’s viewed as a strong defender with a good arm and capable of handling all three spots well. Bolte has many fans within the organization for his hard-nosed style of play.”
The Athletics have been the surprise of baseball, battling out to a record of 21-19 and leading the AL West by two games over the Rangers, heading into Monday’s games.
Injuries have been a factor with the Athletics. So Bolte could have a real chance to prove he belongs at the major-league level.
