The right-hander now provides the club with additional flexibility against the White Sox, particularly if the bullpen needs to cover multiple innings again. His ability to handle length could prove especially valuable in a series that already tested the staff in Game 1.

Alvarado’s demotion followed a difficult outing in the opener. He threw roughly 45 pitches and allowed multiple runs, leaving him unavailable for immediate use and making the move a practical one for the club.

The decision also reflects the A’s broader development strategy. The team continues to cycle young arms through the roster to preserve depth, manage workloads, and evaluate longer-term roles as the season unfolds.
