Willson Contreras’ injury return timeline gets big update
An up-and-down season has come to define the Boston Red Sox. Now that September has arrived, the Red Sox still have a shot at the playoffs. They are currently second in the American League Wild Card standings behind the New York Yankees.
Meanwhile, 1st baseman Willson Contreras made a return from a recent hamstring injury. A sign that the team is bold and well-timed.
On Tuesday, the Red Sox received bad news about Contreras’ recovery, per MLB.com. He was placed back on the injured list due to a left hamstring injury. However, they expect him to return by Sept. 10 at the earliest.
Contreras was sidelined on Aug. 6 after he was taken out of a game against the Chicago White Sox. He was out for weeks before returning recently. Over the weekend, Contreras went 0-for-3 in a 16-1 loss to the Yankees on Aug. 30.
He is now batting .274 with 119 hits, 26 home runs, and 79 RBIs.
At the same time, the Red Sox are fighting for their dear lives to secure a spot in the postseason.
In the first half of the season, Boston was in the basement of the American League East Division. After the All-Star break, they embarked on an incredible run, including going 27-5 over a 32-game stretch in July and August.
Nevertheless, Boston has struggled recently, including losing three of four to the Yankees.
The Red Sox are in the midst of a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners.
Contreras is expected to return when the team begins a three-game home series against the Kansas City Royals on Sept. 11.
