Alan Brazil undergoes life-saving surgery as legendary talkSPORT host gives health update to listeners

Legendary talkSPORT host Alan Brazil has announced that a recent operation saved his life.

Big Al has been absent from his usual slot on the Breakfast Show for a number of weeks due to health issues.

The iconic 66-year-old has hosted the show for more than 25 years, gracing the airwaves with his dulcet tones since the launch of talkSPORT in 2000.

His absence would never go unnoticed by listeners and were wondering as recently as Cheltenham week where he was. On Monday, though, Brazil shared a note with fellow presenters Jeff Stelling and Gabby Agbonlahor to provide an update.

The former Ipswich and Scotland striker said:

“Hi Guys, I hope that everyone’s well.

“Some of you will have noticed that I’ve not been around. I recently had a life-saving operation and I’m deeply grateful to the brilliant medical team who have looked after me.

“It will be some time yet before I’m fully back to myself and for now I am focused on my recovery in private. Thank you to my family and those close to me who’ve been supporting me/ putting up with me!

“I’ll see you all soon.”

Ipswich and Celtic joy

During some well earned time off, Alan will be hoping it’s double delight for his teams.

Ipswich, who he scored 80 times for and won the 1981 UEFA Cup with, have already secured their return to the Premier League having beaten QPR 3-0 on the final day of the Championship season.

The club finished second behind champions Coventry with 84 points and 23 wins over their 46-game season.

Celtic, meanwhile, the team he has supported since he was a boy, could still win the Scottish Premiership and would have been a happy man watching his Bhoys take apart Rangers.

They sit one point behind top of the table Hearts with two games to go but the league leaders still have to visit Celtic Park on the final day of the season.

First, though, there is Motherwell on 13 May before Hearts’ visit three days later.

More importantly than that, everyone at talkSPORT wishes Alan all the best in his recovery.
