The highly anticipated sequel series to A Different World has received a premiere date. Per a release on Netflix’s social media accounts, the reboot series will hit the streaming service in Fall 2026.
“New class. Same Hillman pride. A DIFFERENT WORLD, coming Fall 2026,” the caption for the announcement read.
News of the A Different World sequel series was first announced in 2024. While details were few on the project, Kadeem Hardison and Jasmine Guy were announced to be reprising their roles as Dwayne and Whitley, as the series follows their youngest daughter Deborah Wayne enrolling at Hillman.
Felicia Pride was also announced as the writer and executive producer on the series. In June 2025, the series officially began filming, with the series eventually getting an order by Netflix in November 2025.
“It is such an honor to be a part of bringing back this iconic show, one that I grew up on and which had a profound impact on my life,” said Pride in a statement released by Netflix in November. “I am so proud of the work we’re doing to reimagine A Different World for beloved fans and new generations alike.”
In December, Netflix confirmed that several members of the original cast will reprise their roles in the series, and other notable names, such as rapper-turned-actor Method Man, were announced to also be a part of the series.
Kadeem Hardison, Jasmine Guy, Cree Summer, and Darryl M. Bell released a statement to Deadline about their inclusion in the series.
“A Different World is back!!! YAY!! We are over the moon to bring this much-anticipated sequel with our returning legacy stars Kadeem Hardison, Jasmine Guy, Cree Summer, and Darryl M. Bell! These beloved characters are returning in a major way that respects their history while engaging exciting storylines that are relevant to issues of today. Throughout the season, fans will have a chance to reunite with these O.G. characters and see how their lives have evolved into ‘A Different World.’ And as the story unfolds, there will be more cast surprises in store for longtime fans. A Different World aired on NBC from 1987 through 1993 and centered on student life at a fictional HBCU Hillman College in Virginia. Though it began as a spinoff of The Cosby Show, the series expanded its focus under Debbie Allen to more deeply explore Black college culture and campus life, helping it become one of the defining television shows of its era.
