76ers waive Cam Payne, converts two-way guard before playoffs

The Philadelphia 76ers have made a final decision regarding the places of Cameron Payne and Dalen Terry as they near the end of the 2025-26 regular season.

After experiencing a failed campaign last year, Philadelphia rebounded with a solid season as they find themselves back in the playoff picture. Despite seeing stars Joel Embiid and Paul George miss significant time due to injuries and a suspension for the latter, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe have stepped up to provide a major boost to Philadelphia’s overall success.

Philadelphia is preparing to finalize its roster ahead of the playoffs later this month, per reporter Tony Jones. As a result, they made the decision to cut Payne from the roster and convert Terry’s contract from a two-way deal to a standard contract.

“The Philadelphia 76ers are converting two-way forward Dalen Terry to a standard NBA deal, League Sources tell The Athletic. That includes a team option for next season. To make room, the Sixers are waiving guard Cam Payne, according to sources,” Jones wrote.

What’s next for 76ers after cutting Cameron Payne

It’s an intriguing decision for the 76ers to make for their roster depth, moving on from Cameron Payne while giving Dalen Terry a firm place on the squad.

Payne appeared in 22 games as a spark plug off the bench, producing 7.4 points and 2.6 assists per game. As for Terry, he will provide overall contributions with 3.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest throughout 47 games.

Philadelphia has a 43-37 record on the season, holding the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference standings. They are above the Charlotte Hornets and the Miami Heat while trailing the Orlando Magic and the Atlanta Hawks.

Following Friday’s matchup against the Indiana Pacers, the 76ers will prepare for their regular-season finale before the playoffs start. They will be at home to host the Milwaukee Bucks on April 12 at 6 p.m. ET.
