Jaylen Brown may be moving on from Boston, but it appears some memories of his longtime Celtics partnership with Jayson Tatum remain positive.

Brown was recently asked a simple question at his youth basketball camp in Westford, Massachusetts: Who was the funniest teammate he had ever played with? Despite no longer being in Boston and his relationship with Tatum becoming a major talking point since his trade, Brown had a quick answer.

“Gotta go with Jayson Tatum,” Brown said.

The response immediately drew attention from fans, particularly because of the circumstances surrounding Brown’s departure from Boston.

The Celtics traded Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason in a blockbuster deal that ended his nine-year run with the franchise. The move also separated Brown from Tatum, his longtime teammate and co-star with whom he won the 2024 NBA championship.

Brown and Tatum spent nearly a decade together in Boston, developing into one of the league’s most successful duos. They reached the NBA Finals twice and made multiple deep playoff runs before finally capturing a championship together.

Their partnership, however, appeared to end on complicated terms.

After the trade, Brown was asked whether he had spoken with Tatum. His response was brief. “Not really,” the 2024 Finals MVP said. He also acknowledged that the end of their partnership was difficult, particularly given everything they had accomplished together.

That made Brown’s latest answer even more notable. Despite the reported distance between the two since the trade, Tatum apparently remains the funniest teammate Brown has ever had.

The answer also offers a lighter perspective on a relationship that has been scrutinized heavily since Boston decided to move Brown. Whatever tension exists between the former teammates, their years together produced plenty of memories away from the court as well.

The 29-year-old now begins a new chapter in Philadelphia, where he will look to lead the 76ers alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. His arrival has already generated plenty of excitement, especially after his fiery comments about his mentality heading into his first season with the franchise.

Still, when asked to look back on his NBA career and pick the teammate who made him laugh the most, Brown went back to his Boston days. Tatum may no longer be his teammate, but his answer suggests their shared history still carries some fond memories.
