Jaylen Brown is entering his first season with the Philadelphia 76ers with something to prove. After spending the first 10 years of his NBA career with the Boston Celtics, Brown was shockingly traded to Philadelphia this offseason in a blockbuster deal centered around Paul George and draft compensation. The move sent him from one Eastern Conference contender to another, but it also placed him on the other side of one of the NBA’s biggest rivalries.

Now, Brown appears ready to embrace the opportunity with an aggressive mindset. In his recent Twitch livestream, the 29-year-old All-Star made his intentions clear when discussing his mentality heading into the upcoming season.

“I’ll be listening, I’ll be waiting, but my mentality is kill,” Brown said. “I feel like I want blood this year. You know what I mean? Like I feel like that’s the mentality. I want blood.”

Brown’s comments come after a turbulent offseason that ultimately led to his departure from Boston. The Celtics had reportedly explored trade possibilities involving their longtime star, including discussions surrounding a potential deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Brown previously expressed frustration with how the organization handled the situation, saying he felt a lack of respect throughout the process.

His move to Philadelphia gives him a chance to turn that frustration into motivation.

The timing also makes Brown’s arrival in Philly particularly intriguing. The 76ers eliminated the Celtics in seven games during the first round of the 2026 playoffs after overcoming a 3-1 deficit. Brown was on the opposite side of that comeback, and he will now join the team that ended Boston’s season.

Philadelphia’s ambitions also extend beyond simply getting past the Celtics. The 76ers have assembled one of the league’s most talented rosters, with Brown joining Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid. The team also added LeBron James, giving Philadelphia another veteran superstar with championship experience.

Brown is coming off one of the strongest seasons of his career. He averaged 28.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists while helping Boston win 56 games and secure the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. He also finished sixth in MVP voting.

With a new team, a new supporting cast and plenty of motivation, Brown appears ready to make his first season in Philadelphia count. And if his latest comments are any indication, the new Sixers star isn’t planning on taking it easy.
