49ers QB Mac Jones scores $300,000 contract coup
The San Francisco 49ers are thrilled to have Mac Jones on the roster. Jones played a huge role in rescuing the 2025 season, starting 11 games for the 49ers in relief of starter Brock Purdy. San Francisco just made a surprising contract decision to reward Jones for all of his hard work.
The 49ers and Jones have agreed to a revised contract for the 2026 season, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Jones’ revised contract now includes a $300,000 roster bonus. He is set to make $3.55 million in 2026 with another $2.25 million available via incentives.
The veteran quarterback is in the final year of his current contract. He is currently scheduled to enter NFL free agency next spring.
Jones was a popular trade target for teams throughout the 2026 offseason. The former Patriots quarterback raised his value in 2025 after leading San Francisco to the playoffs. He logged 2,151 passing yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions and a career-best 69.5% completion percentage.
San Francisco never seemed willing to trade Jones after he played such a crucial role last fall. Jones proved that he is a high-level backup, a valuable asset on any NFL team. The fact that he has a pretty affordable contract makes him even more attractive.
It will be interesting to see what becomes of Jones after the 2026 season. He will likely ask for a big pay raise, which could make him too expensive for the 49ers.
However, the 2027 draft class is expected to be stacked at the quarterback position. If there is a glut of rookie quarterback talent, it could reduce the demand for a veteran like Jones.
Either way, San Francisco will have one more shot at a deep playoff run in 2026 with Jones backing up Purdy.
