‘Zoned out’ Thunder All-Star Chet Holmgren delivers hilarious postgame moment

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Chet Holmgren was still in the zone after turning in his best performance of the Western Conference Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. Holmgren’s double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) helped the Thunder take a 3-2 lead in their best-of-7 series, pushing the Spurs to the brink of elimination in a 127-114 victory.

After the win, Holmgren joined NBA on NBC and Peacock for a walk-off interview, which led to a funny exchange with Maria Taylor.

“Why am I here, or why are you happy to see me?” Holmgren asked after an awkward pause. “I’m zoned out now.”

Chet Holmgren finished with 16 points on 6-for-9 attempts, a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, 11 rebounds, one block, and one steal in the Thunder’s Game 5 win against the Spurs.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wasn’t worried about Thunder’s Chet Holmgren

Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander knew Chet Holmgren would find his offense against the Spurs. After Holmgren recorded a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds), which was the most points and rebounds he’s finished with against the Spurs throughout their best-of-7 series, Gilgeous-Alexander addressed his All-Star forward’s impact during his media availability.

“As a player, you’re going to go through ups and downs. I don’t ever worry about Chet. Just cause I know how much he loves the game. How much he cares. How much he works,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “He’ll figure it out no matter what it looks like.”

Averaging 12.2 points on 51.2/30.o/80.0 percent shooting splits in five games against the Spurs, Holmgren’s double-double helped keep the Spurs at bay en route to a 13-point win.
