Yaxel Lendeborg reacts to Warriors telling him he was a ‘jacka**’ during NBA Draft Combine interview

The Golden State Warriors walked away with Yaxel Lendeborg in the first round of the NBA Draft, and he made it look like a good pick during Summer League, where he put on a show. If you asked the Warriors last year before the 2025 draft if they’d have picked Lendeborg at that time, the funny thing is they would’ve said no.

Lendeborg actually declared for the 2205 draft, and after two years at UAB, he spoke with the Warriors, and they said that he was acting like a “jacka-s.” He couldn’t believe it.

“I was like, d–n, I did that bad?” Lendeborg said via ESPN’s Anthony Slater. “But thinking back I guess my answers weren’t as professional. Just giving honest answers like, ‘Yeah, I’m BSing in practice. Yeah, I’m not doing my job in games, but I’m performing.’ I guess I didn’t really give out the good vibe.”

That might have been the wakeup call that Lendeborg needed, because he went back to college and transferred to Michigan, where he helped them win a national title and was arguably the best player on the floor. Fast forward to this year, two weeks before the draft, and Lendeborg found himself doing a film session with Steve Kerr.

He and the Warriors seemed to be impressed.

“I mean, I pretty much gave all the right answers,” Lendeborg said. “Then he asked me what are things that they need to improve on this year, and I gave him exactly what he was thinking. So I kind of read his mind in a way. And I mean, I feel like that gave me a little bit of an edge. I won him over.”

Now, Lendeborg is on the Warriors, and there’s a good chance that he’ll play an important part on the team in his rookie season.
