Yankees’ George Lombard Jr. gets positive update after knee injury scare
On Saturday, the New York Yankees got back into the win column with a comfortable home victory over the rival Boston Red Sox. However, the team didn’t make it through this game unscathed, as promising young shortstop George Lombard Jr. exited the contest early due to right knee discomfort.
Thankfully, on Sunday, the team got a positive update on Lombard Jr.’s status moving forward.
“Imaging showed no structural damage for George Lombard Jr. (right knee). He is day-to-day for now, Aaron Boone said,” reported Bryan Hoch of the MLB on X, formerly Twitter.
The Yankees have been hit hard by injuries this year, most notably to superstar Aaron Judge, who is still out of the lineup due to a rib issue, having missed around three months now, but is expected to join the team at some point before the playoffs get underway.
Meanwhile, veteran Giancarlo Stanton has also missed the majority of the year and recently experienced a setback in his own recovery from a calf injury, which could jeopardize his availability moving forward.
Still, the Yankees are in a solid position heading into the season’s final month, currently sitting 4.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the AL East, and seemingly a lock to make it into the playoffs one way or another.
Of course, day-to-day can extend for quite some time, so Yankees fans will certainly hope that Lombard Jr.’s recovery time falls on the quicker side of things.
Meanwhile, the Yankees will wrap up their series against the Red Sox on Sunday at 1:35 pm ET from The Bronx.
