UNLV coach Dan Mullen calls for more out of fans after loss to Memphis

The UNLV season got off to a disappointing start, as UNLV lost to Memphis 27-21. It was a solid game from Jackson Arnold of UNLV, who put them in a position to win, but the Rebels could not hold on.

After the game, UNLV head coach Dan Mullen spoke about the atmosphere at home in Allegiant Stadium, per Vegas Sports Today.

“One tip, if they could help me in the future, we do the wave when we’re on defense, and we get really excited when we are on defense, and we’re a little bit quieter when we’re on offense. That would be one big plus for our game operations people and everyone in that stadium, just a heads up,” Mullen said. “I do thank everybody. I thought it was a great atmosphere tonight, great crowd, and it’s great to see the support.”

UNLV had plenty of chances to win the game. After a scoreless first quarter, the Rebels took the lead in the second quarter with a touchdown pass from Arnold. Memphis responded with a score before Arnold ran in a touchdown, making it 14-7. After forcing a fumble, UNLV had a chance to go up two scores. They got into field goal range, but missed the attempt.

Memphis would score on their first two drives in the second half, while Arnold threw another touchdown pass, making it a 21-21 game. The offense struggled from there as Memphis added two more field goals, winning 27-21.

UNLV struggled on third down, converting just three of 15 attempts, while going two for five on fourth down. They also had seven penalties for 75 yards.

UNLV looks to rebound next weekend as they visit Hawaii on September 5.
