Yankees’ Cam Schlittler reveals what went wrong in ugly outing vs. Guardians

Cam Schlittler, ever since he got the call from the New York Yankees to enter the starting rotation, has been nothing but a positive presence for the team. Schlittler stepped up big time in the 2025 MLB postseason, and at just 25 years of age, the Yankees starter looked like one of brightest young pitchers in MLB.

And in 2026, with Schlittler being a member of the Yankees’ starting rotation on a full-time basis, he’s been elite — recording an ERA of 1.50 and an fWAR of 2.9 through his first 12 starts of 2026. However, even the best pitchers in MLB can have bad games. On Tuesday, Schlittler wasn’t his typically elite self, as he lasted just 4.1 innings and allowed five runs (four earned) during his time on the mound as the Yankees suffered a 9-4 loss to the Cleveland Guardians.

After the game, Schlittler revealed what went wrong for him on the night as the Yankees couldn’t continue their winning ways.

“Just didn’t have my stuff today, they made a good approach, made me fight a little bit, I just didn’t have it,” Schlittler said, via SNY on X (formerly Twitter).

Schlittler is certainly allowed to have bad games, especially when he’s this early into what is surely going to be a long career in the big leagues. Even after this poor start on Tuesday, Schlittler’s ERA on the year is at 1.89 across 76.1 innings, and that is an elite figure that the Yankees will be taking every day of the week.

Now, there is a bit of pressure on the Yankees rotation to hold their own, what with Aaron Judge possibly facing an extended stint on the sidelines with a rib injury. There isn’t exactly reason to be concerned over Schlittler, as he has shown all year that he can step up for the Yankees when they need him the most.
