Xander Bogaerts sounds off after Padres big win over Mariners
The San Diego Padres took a 4-1 win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday. It was a slow start to the season for the Padres, but since then, the team has been great. After starting 2-5, the team has won nine of its last ten, including six straight.
After the 4-1 victory over the Mariners, star shortstop Xander Bogaerts spoke about the breakout of the offense and the turnaround of the Padres, according to MLB.com.
“I think we are having a great last couple of games. In the beginning, we were hitting a lot of hard-hit balls, facing a lot of really good pitching, tonight also, but for the most part, in the beginning, we were getting ace after ace after ace from the other teams,” Bogaerts said. “Hitting some balls right at people, it’s tough. But now a lot of stuff is falling our way, and we are playing really good baseball.”
The Padres were one of the top teams in terms of hard-hit ball rate and barrel rate early in the season, but the offense was not coming with it. In the first seven games, they scored 21 runs, good for just three runs per game. Since then, they have scored 57 runs, good for 5.7 runs per game.
During the six-game winning streak, Bogaerts has been great. He is hitting .350 with a .345 OBP. He also has seven RBIs and scored three times. Meanwhile, Ramon Lauteaon is hitting .400 with two home runs, five RBIs, and seven runs scored. The Padres have ten home runs, 38 RBIs, and 40 runs scored in the last six games overall.
The team will look to keep the hot hitting going on Wednesday, as they face the Mariners in game two of the series.
