WWE Champ Cody Rhodes takes subtle dig at part-timers while addressing his future

These days, several Superstars like Roman Reigns are considered part-timers, meaning they don’t appear week-to-week (although the “Tribal Chief” has been full-time since before WrestleMania 42), but Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes won’t ever be like that.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Rhodes took aim at part-timers. While he didn’t name names, he did say he respects them for doing what they do. Being a part-timer allows them to embark on other ventures. However, the “American Nightmare” is fully locked into WWE.

“There are guys who do take breaks, and I’m not mad at anyone who takes breaks, and they get to go and get in incredible shape or go do a project or get healthy, whatever the heck it is that they’re doing, they get to do that, and they come back and they’re fresh and they get that big reaction on the first night,” he explained. “But then it settles back into what it was.

“If others are doing that, and I heard this from Bobby Roode, and I hope he doesn’t mind his name being mentioned here, then it’s my job to be the guy who’s always here. Then it’s my job to be the one who doesn’t leave you,” he continued.

It sounds like Rhodes is aware of the criticisms that his gimmick has grown “stale” with fans, but he’s okay with it if it means WWE is in a “safe place” until someone else takes his place.

Elsewhere in the interview, Rhodes, 40, talked about how much longer he can keep wrestling. He acknowledged that he will probably be done within the next decade.

However, it sounds like he’s open to non-wrestling roles. Luckily, it still doesn’t sound like he’ll take on a part-time schedule during the last part of his career.

“I don’t think too much about a limited schedule, but you said 10 years—I think it does take a toll, at a certain point, and I don’t think in 10 years I’ll still be going,” he acknowledged, before saying with a chuckle, “I think there’ll be another QB1 of WWE at that point.”
