Wrexham need a win to fend off a potential Hull win, but they also need to make sure they beat Hull in the goal difference too.

If Hull win 2-0 and Wrexham only win 1-0 the Welsh side will not get into the play-offs, as they would be equal on points, equal on goal difference and it would then fall down to goals scored which Hull lead in.

Boro could get into the 2nd automatic promotion spot if they win and both Ipswich lose and Millwall fail to win and get into the Premier League in remarkable fashion.

So it’s all to play for in the last game of the season and though Wrexham are just narrowly favourites, Boro do have the better form.

Wrexham hold onto play-offs

Despite Wrexham losing three in their last five, they still look a great bet to win at home in front of a packed Racecourse Ground.

It also wouldn’t be surprising if they were to do so in their usual dramatic fashion.

They lost 3-1 to Coventry in a well-fought clash last Sunday and they did put up a valiant fight against the already promoted side.

Phil Parkinson’s men have a habit of not only scoring a few, conceding a couple themselves and also late goals.

Boro are very unlikely to get promotion unless a lot of things go their way and they still need to win to guarantee it, which will not be easy against a team fighting to claim a play-off spot and their chance at the Premier League.

Windass again?

Josh Windass has been key for Wrexham scoring 15 goals in 40 appearances in the Championship so far.

He also scored against Boro last time out in the first few minutes of the game, and is a big price to get on the scoresheet again.

Wrexham have plenty of players that could go up front or in attack to join each other in a front three this weekend, including Sam Smith who’s scored seven, Kieffer Moore who has netted 11 and then there’s been plenty of players getting in on the scoreboard too.

Boro will be a tough opponent for a team fighting to keep their season alive but away from home there’s still a bigger chance.

Boro haven’t won against Wrexham since 1972, but in fairness to them have only played the Welsh side four times in total.

This is just the second league game between these two sides after the reverse fixture earlier this season, which ended 1-1.

The three previous fixtures came in 1972 in the League Cup where Boro won 2-0.

Then Wrexham won twice against them in the FA Cup in 1974 before next meeting in 1999.
