World Cup news: Lamine Yamal’s bold prediction for Spain after brutal Cabo Verde draw
It was a rough start to the World Cup, as Spain could not score on Cabo Verde, with the first match of the group stage resulting in a scoreless draw. With the next match against Saudi Arabia looming, Lamine Yamal made a bold declaration about what’s to come, according to World Cup insider Fabrizio Romano.
“Lamine Yamal: “On Sunday, we will go to achieve that win, and of course, we will bring out our playing style and show who we are. Together, we will overcome everything. I’m also sure that we will all be together on July 19. See you soon, a hug to everyone”, told via TVE,” Romano wrote on X.
Many experts predicted Spain to roll through the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group Stage. Instead, they struggled mightily against Cabo Verde and could not put one in the net. Some had Spain as the favorite, and they did not show it in their battle with Cabo Verde. Yet, they must recover quickly as Saudi Arabia looms next.
It’s not the first time Spain has started slow. Therefore, many expect Spain to recover and advance to the Round of 32. Following their match with Saudi Arabia, Spain will face Uruguay. That could be a pivotal matchup, especially if Spain needs to find the goal difference to win their group.
Yamal played 20 minutes in the opener against Cabo Verde. Ultimately, he finished with two shots, with neither hitting the target. Yamal also had 19 total passes. With Saudi Arabia on deck, he will likely have the chance to get more minutes and contribute to Spain’s effort in the World Cup.
