Wizards’ AJ Dybantsa links up with Frances Tiafoe in cool US Open moment

Washington Wizards forward AJ Dybantsa was spotted in New York on Sunday. Not to visit the NBA’s main office on Fifth Avenue, but to support tennis star Frances Tiafoe at the US Open at Flushing Meadows.

Tiafoe advanced to the quarterfinals after beating Daniil Medvedev, 7-6 (1-7), 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

After the match, Tiafoe, who is a big fan of the Wizards, did a basketball celebration, much to the delight of Dybantsa and his family. They were seated in Tiafoe’s player box and had a great view of the action.

Fans were all for the cool friendship between the 28-year-old Tiafoe and the 19-year-old Dybantsa.

“He’s a regular at Wizards games when he’s in DC. Great to see the mutual support,” said @larry_irving.

“AJ Dybantsa x Frances Tiafoe? That’s a collab I didn’t know I needed,” added @HighlyUnspoken.

“Big support,” commented @Evan Guthrie.

“Two sports worlds colliding! Tiafoe bringing the energy on the court and the NBA star matching the vibe,” wrote @primepicksnet.

“Love to see him (Dybantsa) repping early on like this,” posted @ravenwizardd.

Dybantsa also rooted for Tiafoe in person at the French Open at Roland Garros in June.

To recall, Tiafoe, who will face Alex Michelsen in the quarterfinals, urged the Wizards to select the do-it-all wingman as the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft.

Dybantsa is expected to electrify the team and live up to the hype of being a blue-chip prospect. There is a lot of optimism in Washington, as he, Trae Young, Anthony Davis, Alex Sarr, and Kyshawn George will form a core that can do damage in the Eastern Conference.
