Wings star Paige Bueckers ties bonkers WNBA record amid loss to Lynx
The Dallas Wings dropped to 1-2 on the season after a 90-86 loss to the Minnesota Lynx (2-1) on Thursday night, even as Paige Bueckers turned in her best performance of the young season.
The 24-year-old finished with a season-high 27 points along with eight assists and three rebounds in 31 minutes. She converted 10 of 11 free throws and recorded seven assists in the first half alone, setting a career best for assists in a half. Bueckers extended her streak to eight consecutive games with at least 15 points and two assists, the longest active run in the league. She also tied the WNBA’s fastest mark to 750 points and 200 assists.
Dallas built a 48-40 halftime lead behind a big opening half from Maddy Siegrist, who scored all 17 of her points before the break on 7-of-10 shooting. Siegrist contributed four rebounds, one assist and one block in 16 minutes off the bench. Her seven made field goals also pushed her past 300 career baskets.
Minnesota responded after halftime and took control late thanks to Natasha Howard and Courtney Williams. Howard scored 26 points, including the go-ahead layup with 51 seconds remaining, while Williams added 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting. Rookie Olivia Miles chipped in 15 points and six assists, and Kayla McBride secured the win by making three free throws in the final 17.1 seconds.
The Wings received 11 points, three assists and two steals from Odyssey Sims, while rookie Azzi Fudd bounced back from a difficult debut with a career-high eight points in 19 minutes. Fudd also had a team-best plus-11 rating in her first home game.
The Lynx shot 60.3% from the field compared to Dallas’ 46.3% and held advantages in rebounds (31-26), second-chance points (18-9) and paint scoring (48-40). The Wings, however, finished with a 22-20 advantage in assists and outscored Minnesota’s bench 29-4.
