Broncos’ Bo Nix gets huge outlook heading into Year 3 from Evan Engram

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix enters his third NFL season facing increased expectations, but tight end Evan Engram likes what he sees from the 26-year-old and believes he can get even better.

“He’s constantly trying to improve,” said Engram. “He’s constantly wanting to be better. He’s only year three, but he’s very mature. He’s very smart, he just knows ball. He’s a gamer and obviously there’s a lot of things he wants to improve on, little details within his game, but his mindset alone is going to take him really, far in this league. I mean, you saw what he’s capable of last year, and I think the sky’s the limit for him, and he’s looking to improve on that for sure.”

The numbers provide a solid foundation for that outlook. The Broncos have gone 25-11, including the postseason, with Nix as their starter over his first two seasons, winning 69.4% of those games. Denver reached the playoffs in both seasons after missing the postseason in the previous eight, won the AFC West last year and finished 14-3 in 2025. That season included an NFL-record 12 comeback wins and an 11-2 mark in one-score games.

Nix also became only the third quarterback in league history to record at least 3,500 passing yards and 25 touchdown passes in each of his first two seasons, joining Peyton Manning and Justin Herbert. Among the six first-round quarterbacks selected in 2024, Nix leads in team wins, passing touchdowns, rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns. His 82.6 red-zone QBR ranked fourth in the NFL last season, while his seven winning drives led the league.

However, there are areas where Nix must improve. He ranked 26th in completion percentage over expectation at minus-2.1% last season and completed 44.1% of throws traveling at least 10 air yards and 36.1% on throws of 20 or more air yards. His 47 completions of at least 20 yards ranked 12th.

Nix’s health is another consideration. He has undergone three ankle surgeries during his two Broncos seasons, including an April procedure for bone spurs in his surgically repaired right ankle. Still, he has missed only one game as Denver’s starter.

With Nix entering the third season of his rookie contract, the Broncos must determine whether he is their long-term franchise quarterback and whether he merits a major extension.
