Why Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is troll-proof on X

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander revealed what most already know about the MVP. When he’s not in the lab working on his game or playing, he’s not typically on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter). After the Thunder’s Game 5 win against the San Antonio Spurs, in which Gilgeous-Alexander had the worst start to a game, according to him, he discussed his habits outside of basketball.

When a reporter asked Gilgeous-Alexander about what’s often said about him on X (formerly Twitter), SGA set the record straight after leading his team to a 127-114 victory to take a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference Finals.

“I’m definitely not on Twitter,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “Especially not this time of year.”

After going 0-for-4 in the opening frame, Gilgeous-Alexander found his offensive rhythm in the second quarter before heading into halftime with 19 of his 32 points in Game 5, pushing the Spurs to the brink of elimination.

Without Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell, Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault inserted Jared McCain into the starting lineup, while Alex Caruso anchored the second unit. Gilgeous-Alexander commended Alex Caruso’s high-level effort, pointing to the veteran experience as a two-time champion, and the knowledge that comes with it.

“He has the most championships on this team, first and foremost. He’s played in the most biggest games on this team. So, that experience you can’t recreate or manufacture. You either go through it, or you don’t,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “And AC isn’t some uber-talented guy. He’s not some guy that’s 6’7 with a 7’3 wingspan who shoots lights out. But he is one of, if not the best, competitors in the NBA. Night in and night out. He wears that.

“He sets that tone for us as a group, and it’s come full-fledged this series because of him having to step up. He wears that hat for this group all season long. It’s on TV every night. So, everyone’s getting to see it. But, yeah, he’s huge for us,” Gilgeous-Alexander concluded.

Caruso finished with 22 points on 5-for-10 shooting, including four threes, and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. He also added five assists, four rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
